Last week, the New York Tactical Officers Association hosted its annual conference in Verona, Oneida County. The conference brings together corporations, officers and officials from law enforcement agencies from across the state to learn about new tactics, weapons and technologies to enhance the already alarming militarization of police in our communities.
Conferences like this one demonstrate the dangerous nexus between defense industry companies, law enforcement officers and racist and Islamophobic ideologies. NYTOAC is essentially an opportunity for SWAT officers and other officials to get together to “talk shop” with major arms dealers and Islamophobic ideologues.
