“zog nit keyn mol,” is a collage-based work from research I have been doing on Jewish women partisan fighters from the second world war and Nazi Holocaust. The partisan’s in this piece were specifically fighters in the mountains and forests of Poland, Ukraine and Belarus. The Yiddish text are lyrics from the partisan anthem, Zog Nit Keyn Mol, written by Hirsh Glick in the Vilna Ghetto 1943, inspired by the news of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising:
zog nit keyn mol, az du geyst dem letstn veg
never say you are walking your final road…
s’vet a poyk ton undzer trot: mir zaynen do!
Our steps will beat out like drums: we are here!
